Prepare for Your Journey on the Mat

Studio Essentials: Your Quick Guide


  • Hydrate. Stay well-hydrated before class to help flush out toxins and enhance your body’s overall performance.
  • Practice on an empty stomach. Avoid food for 1-3 hours prior to class. This optimizes blood flow to your muscles, organs, and glands, diverting it from the digestive system during poses.
  • Sign in at the front desk before class. If you’re pregnant, injured, or have specific needs, inform the teacher to receive necessary modifications for a safe practice. Ensure your account is in order.
  • Arrive on time. Be 15 minutes early to prepare yourself with a clean, fragrance-free body for the heated room. Many students have scent sensitivities, so please avoid perfumes or colognes. Keep your mat and towel clean and sanitized.
  • Remove shoes and discard gum. Turn off all cell phones in the studio. Remember that yoga transcends self-care within these walls.
  • Observe silence in the Yoga Room. Pre-class silence allows you to set your intentions, practice mindfulness, and delve deep into your yoga journey. 


  • Maintain your presence in the room throughout the class. The heat supports detoxification through sweating. Feeling light-headed or nauseous can be normal. Remember to breathe, rest when necessary, hydrate, or recline on your mat. In the yoga room, there’s no judgment or competition. Strive to remain in the room for the entire class.
  • Show respect to the teacher, your fellow students, and the yoga tradition. Be mindful that you’re part of a group class. Teachers may offer modifications to either ease or intensify postures. Each class holds a specific purpose and intention. Be respectful by following the teacher’s guidance and staying within your limits.
  • Embrace your edge. Your practice is a sacred space on the mat; give your personal best every class and welcome the transformation that yoga brings. Practice, Practice, Practice!
  • Approach yourself and others with kind and loving eyes.

Be early

Arrive 15 minutes prior to class. This will help you acclimate to the heat and mentally prepare for class.


Be present

Refrain from talking once inside the room. Leave cellphones and personal items in the cubbies. It is time to move inward and leave distractions behind.


Be strong

Stay in the room for the entire length of class. It is a sign of strength to lie down on your mat and take a break when needed. Honor your body.


Be clean

Be sure to be free of any body odors, wash your body, mat, yoga towels & clothing thoroughly. Avoid wearing strong colognes & perfumes in the hot room.
