At Radiant Hot Yoga, we believe in celebrating the dedication, progress, and positivity of our community members. Each month, we shine a spotlight on a student who exemplifies the spirit of yoga through their practice, perseverance, and passion. Our Student of the Month section is a tribute to these inspiring individuals who not only embrace the physical challenges but also embody the mental and spiritual growth that yoga fosters. Join us as we honor their journeys, share their stories, and highlight their achievements both on and off the mat.
Radiant Hot Yoga is known for its energy. How would you describe the atmosphere and what it means to you?
The atmosphere in the studio from day one was welcoming, loving, and understanding. It gives me the opportunity to clear my mind, focus on my thoughts for the day. I prefer to practice early in the morning and I truly notice a difference on those days that I do practice.
You’ve been on our luxury Yoga Retreat five times—what makes these retreats such a meaningful part of your yoga journey, and how have they deepened your connection to Radiant?
The yoga retreats are amazing! For me, it simply started as a way to see new parts of the world. My first retreat was Thailand, a country I had never been before and I went into it with zero expectations. Not only did it contribute to my growth on a personal level the biggest benefit is learning more about our own community. You recognize we all have a story, and being out of the studio and in a new environment really lends to learning more about each other and makes even that more special when we see each other back home in the studio.
Is there a specific teacher, class, or moment at Radiant Hot Yoga that has left a lasting impression on you?
This is a great question. I will never forget my first class with Darlene. Truth be told I walked out about halfway through, was overwhelmed, honestly didn’t realize what I signed up for! A few days later I recognized that this was a new challenge I was up for.
Radiant is more than a yoga studio—it’s a community. What role has this community played in your life, both on and off the mat?
Community is hard to build, in any form. For me I had recently just moved into the neighborhood, and throughout the years have built friendships that will last a lifetime through meeting on our mats.
Can you share how practicing at Radiant has transformed your mindset, physical well-being, or spiritual growth?
Another amazing question. My intent in the beginning was simply to get in better shape, you quickly realize the benefits of a good sweat and cardio from the flows. Over time, my focus was to do as best I can in each posture and you start to memorize each sequence in class. After that is where the magic happened for me. With the postures and flows in the background I found myself going through the motions without thought, bliss. For me getting into that zone is what truly makes practicing yoga special.
What advice would you give to someone walking into Radiant for the first time, hoping to begin their own yoga journey?
My best advice for anyone walking into the studio for the first time is to try your best to not be overwhelmed. . There is nothing else like practicing in that hot room and we have all been there. We have all had that moment when the teacher says “and that was our warm up” and you roll your eyes and go………what? We all have been there, enjoy the journey.
If you could describe Radiant Hot Yoga in three words, what would they be and why?
Radiant in words. Challenging. Inspiring. Humbling.
What first inspired you to join Radiant Hot Yoga, and how has the experience impacted your yoga practice and personal growth?
When I first moved to Newport Beach my realtor and close friend Susie Mckibbin suggested I try yoga, and I have been on the journey of practicing ever since.
