How Radiant Hot Yoga changed my life... Interview with Shelby C.

What benefits were you hoping to receive from your yoga practice?

Originally, I found yoga as a way to achieve a healthy workout. My mat became a place where I was able to get out of my head & into my body.   This has been such a gift!” – Shelby C.

How has yoga and your practice exceeded your expectations?

As a yoga teacher and student for 10+ years, my yoga practice now is more focused on breath work. Aligning breath with movement continues to be a challenge…

However, the teachings of yoga {along with my own humor} have taught me that there’s no such thing as a perfect practice. When I take this lesson and apply it to other areas in my life, I come from a more accepting space – both of myself and towards others.” – Shelby C.

How has yoga benefitted you off the mat?

Each day my body faces various challenges – my mind is in a different space… and this is OKAY.

Learning to be gentle with myself has been one of the greatest lessons & gifts of this practice.” – Shelby C.

Do you notice a change in your physical, mental, emotional and or spiritual body from a regular yoga practice?

Definitely!

When I’m away from my mat for work, or personal reasons- I notice my whole mind/body connection struggles. This is why it’s important for me to take at least 5-10 minutes each day of sitting meditation {typically at home before the day begins}.

This process helps to keep me grounded, in the chance I’m not able to make it to the studio for a physical practice.” – Shelby C.

Have you tried other styles of yoga? What makes Radiant Hot Yoga your preferred place of practice?

I have tried many types of yoga and truly enjoy them all. Each type of yoga has been helpful for my mind/body at that particular moment in my life. Restorative, Yin, Bikram, Vinyasa and Ashtanga are just a few of my favorites.

What I love about Radiant is the Flow aspect.

I also love the convenience factor {5 min from home and office!} …and especially the HEAT.

Radiant is by far, the hottest studio in Newport and I always leave feeling refreshed after a nice, juicy sweat. I am beyond grateful for this yoga community!” – Shelby C.

How Radiant Hot Yoga changed my life... Interview with Drew C.

What benefits were you hoping to receive from your yoga practice?

I was mainly hoping to try something different for physical exercise. At that point, most of my exercise had been high impact movements that were effective but would sometimes leave my hips, back, knees and shoulders feeling creaky. I wanted to try to do something that could, at the very least, offset some of that and improve my flexibility.” – Drew C.

How has yoga and your practice exceeded your expectations?

Yoga, and particularly yoga at Radiant, has exceeded my expectations in just about every way imaginable. My flexibility has improved dramatically and I think I feel better physically than I ever have. I remember my first few classes, looking around during certain poses (wheel and cobra come to mind) and thinking, “no way I’ll ever be able to do that.” In the last few months, though, it’s exciting to feel like I’m doing much better with those poses that previously seemed impossible.

I didn’t anticipate some of the other benefits, though. First, the energy at Radiant is consistently incredible, and I think that’s a huge tribute to Darlene and all of her teachers who manage to turn 6 AM classes into a party. There really isn’t a better way to start the day. Second, I feel like I’ve dealt with stressful situations far better since I’ve been practicing.” – Drew C.

How has yoga benefitted you off the mat?

I think the biggest off-the-mat benefit has been my awareness of my breath and its connection to how I’m feeling physically. It’s obviously something that’s very important in order to get through a 60 or 80 minute class in 105 degree heat, but it’s also incredibly helpful in my daily life and how I deal with stress.” – Drew C.

Do you notice a change in your physical, mental, emotional and or spiritual body from a regular yoga practice?

Most definitely. I have more control over my breath, increased flexibility and mental clarity and an overall feeling of well being.” – Drew C.

Have you tried other styles of yoga? What makes Radiant Hot Yoga your preferred place of practice?

I’ve tried a few different styles but couldn’t really get into it. I always thought it was too slow and that I didn’t get enough of a physical workout. Radiant is 100% different.

I leave every class physically exhausted but mentally and emotionally exhilarated. It’s a great feeling.” – Drew C.
