I actually had thought of every excuse in the book not to go! Money, time, long flight, don’t know anyone well enough to travel with, time off, etc…. It just took Yasi to say “Why not”. And so a life changing (or life altering) journey began with:
- New friends
- New experiences
- New culture
- New foods
- New places
- Time away
- Connecting with self
- Connecting with people
It was transformational. Especially because of all the reasons you come up with not to go. It just takes a decision to say yes and everything else falls into place. The only one holding you back is you.
Do it! Step outside your comfort zone. Make new friends. Grow. That’s truly what this trip was about for me. And no better group of people to do it with than my new yogi family!

My time in Thailand on the RHY yoga retreat is easy to put in one word; MAGICAL!
Combining the culture of the Thai people, the beautiful cliffs & ocean of Koh Samui and the amazing food and of course, yoga – my week could not have been any better. Yoga overlooking the beautiful cliffs of Vikasa, the sounds of crashing waves and the ocean breeze was beyond breathtaking. Connecting with everyone on the retreat, taking in the beautiful culture and exploring a Country that most had never been to was truly life-changing. The ability to travel and explore is something that I would recommend to everyone. You can truly find peace and connect with a deeper side of yourself and make lifelong connections!

If you told me a year ago that I was going to fall in love with yoga and go on a retreat to Thailand to practice yoga, I would believe you. I joined RHY about a year ago because I had knee surgery two years ago, and I did physical therapy for a year, but I wasn’t happy with the results. I tried to stay positive, but I was getting more and more frustrated. So I joined Radiant because it was close to my house and there was a groupon, and it changed my life!
Throughout the months I became addicted to yoga because my breathing got better, my knee felt better, and overall my entire body and spirit felt lighter, healthier, and happier. I didn’t take advantage of the retreat to Talum because I was still new to the studio and was a bit shy, but as I got to know the staff better, I told myself I would try to make it on the next retreat.
Not knowing what this retreat would bring, I signed up and wished for the best. In the months leading up to the retreat I met and became really close with my retreat roommate, who I now call my yogi sister. We planned our trip filled with activities and places to go before and after the retreat, along with a couple other yogis. The anticipation grew exponentially!
The day finally came, and as soon as we arrived at LAX, the bond between our group became even stronger. We were ready to embark on a beautiful journey together, and we were all there in support of each other. A few of us decided to get to Thailand early and explore Bangkok, which was amazing because we were able to venture in the city and bond closer in an intimate group.
The island was beautiful. As soon as we landed in Koh Samui I knew I would enjoy the week ahead of relaxing island life. When we got to the resort we were greeted by friendly staff and immediately seated in our ocean view restaurant with a fresh coconut to drink. The views were spectacular! Everything you can see on google images was true and beautiful, and real, and right in front of me. Bright blue and warm waters, soft sandy beaches and a peaceful calm air barely begin to describe it. It was such a beautiful feeling to wake up and practice yoga by the beach, meditate, and listen to the waves crashing against the rocks right below our yoga room. Then we would have breakfast at the resort restaurant with a gorgeous view of what I can only describe as paradise. I look at pictures now, and I still can’t believe I was able to experience such beauty.
We lived each day in the present moment. We could participate in workshops, tours, shopping and exploring the island, or just chose to lounge around and enjoy one of many beautiful local beaches and infinity pools. It was as if we didn’t have to keep track of the time. It would all work out perfectly. The group became so close also, and we were all able to spend time together and bond in one common goal of unity. Great views, great food and drinks, and amazing company; I couldn’t think of a better way to spend a vacation.
I realized on the retreat that I was subconsciously trying to get away from everything, and that I was still holding on to negative things from the past that no longer served me. Although we were tourists and did lots of activities on the island, we also had plenty of time to work on ourselves inward. It was so refreshing to get away and evaluate what truly mattered. I was able to work on myself and accept myself, and appreciate all the small things around me. I came home a new person; a better person.
I cannot thank Darlene and Radiant Hot Yoga enough for opening up this opportunity for me. Once you go on a journey like this, nothing will stay the same.

It has been 5 weeks since returning from our retreat to Thailand and not a day, not even an hour has gone by that I have not thought of my yoga family, our journey together and the impact this retreat has had on my heart.
It has taken me this long to give my testimonial because I was having difficulty finding the words that could possibly give justice to just how amazing this experience truly was. It was SO much more than Awesome or Amazing. It really was Life Changing!
Those are strong words! My heart changed in Thailand! My heart, my mind, my soul… Something happened over there! I can’t explain it, all I can say is GO.
If you have an opportunity to go on a retreat with Darlene and the Radiant yoga family, Go! GO GO GO!!!
