How Radiant Hot Yoga changed my life... Interview with Norm
What benefits were you hoping to receive from your yoga practice?
I guess there are two benefits from Yoga that I hoped to achieve, one of body and one of mind. I knew that Yoga (not hot) was a challenge and I thought that adding the heat would be both amazing for the body and the mind…. If I could stand the heat.
Being a 56 year old man, only in semi-decent shape, I knew that it was going to be tough, but I did not listen so much to my mind but more to my soul which was telling me that this was a good thing.” – Norm
How has yoga and your practice exceeded your expectations?
When I got through my first class at Radiant Hot Yoga, I did not know for sure if I would be able to handle it. The incredible instructors at Radiant were SO positive and made me feel that I could do it and that I was doing amazing exactly where I was at!! They told me to come back as soon as I could and as often as I could…. And that is just what I have been doing. I kept coming back to Radiant and now about 1½ years later I actually crave the heated room and SO look forward to my practice.
Lately, I have had some work issues that have kept me away more then I would like, but I know that I would practice EVERYDAY, if I could!!!” – Norm
How has yoga benefitted you off the mat?
Hot Yoga gives me a feeling that I can get through anything. It can be tough in that room, but again, I don’t let it get to me, I work with it, not against it, knowing my limits. Physically I am in better shape than I have been in a long time! I breath with so much more intention!! I deal with mentally challenging items so much better…. A bit calmer.” – Norm
Do you notice a change in your physical, mental, emotional and or spiritual body from a regular yoga practice?
As I just mentioned, I absolutely feel a difference. When I am a bit pressed for time and I do not have a chance to get to my mat for my practice, I notice it physically AND mentally. I have lower back issues which I am very careful of during my practice, but yoga has made it so much stronger, I just do not have the pain like I used to!!
Mentally, I just simply start to get a bit more irritable if I am away too long. I can be a pretty hyped individual… yoga allows me the chance to be calmer… not necessarily calm…. But calmer!!” – Norm
Have you tried other styles of yoga? What makes Radiant Hot Yoga your preferred place of practice?
I practiced regular yoga about 10 or 15 years ago and I really enjoyed it then, but once I got into Hot Yoga at Radiant, I just knew that this was what I was suppose to do!!
I really do not have any intentions of practicing anywhere else. I have other people that go to other studios and do not like it as much. I know that the main reason for this is because of Darlene and her instructors. I have never felt so much love from a group before.
I usually go to the 6:00 AM class and Morgan, Stephanie and Jennie are just simply amazing…. I get to go in and get a big hug in the morning before practice and what a way to make a connection with another human being in such an awesome place. All the instructors there are nothing less then stellar!!!” – Norm
