Creating a New Year’s resolution is a remarkable way to inspire yourself for a change of greatness in the New Year.
Yet, sometimes our New Years resolutions can devolve into a subconscious way of living that implements self-loathing. New Year resolutions can inspire us for the better, but they also bring unneeded stress and chaos.
When we look over our resolutions, we see that they are stemmed from an unspoken assumption, assuming that the way we currently are is not good enough.
Sometimes we allow our ego to be a role player in our life. When this happens we constantly compare ourselves and allow the word “should” to lurk in our self-evaluation. Society and the media love to portray what the “ideal” life is. It is easy to fall into the belief that what and where we are right now isn’t good enough.
This assumption and un-contentment comes from a place of comparison, which is fed by the ego. After all these years of comparing and trying to fit in with what society says, why don’t we start this year off by accepting ourselves and embracing the unique beautiful beings that we are!
Instead of starting this New Year off with New Year resolutions, why don’t you start the New Year off with a “sankalpa”. The word sankalpa means “will, purpose, and determination.”
The beautiful concept of a sankalpa is that promotes awakening and love, while admiring the nobility of effort; rather than focusing on what you are doing wrong. Instead of creating resolutions that challenge you to loose ten pounds, to stop drinking coffee, to work out more, or to fit in; why don’t you set an intention to live in gratitude within every moment, to live with an open and loving heart, and to embrace the present moment; regardless of the situation.
Sankalpas are intentions that are created from a place of love, purity, acceptance, and unity. Allow your sankalpa to be your daily mantra. A mantra is a sacred, powerful statement, that generates connection, awakening, and tremendous growth in the physical, mental and spiritual body. Mantras should be chanted with concentration, love, and devotion.
Incorporate your sankalpa / mantra into your yoga practice, mediation, morning run, while your driving, or in any other daily routine.
Yoga is much more than a work out, it is a positive and awakened way of living. Yoga is a practice that promotes connection. It is the journey of the self, to the self, through the self. It’s about letting go and clearing space within yourself, so you have space to receive and room to plant new seeds.
Your daily yoga practice prepares the soil that we will plant our seeds in, manifesting deep and permanent changes in our lives. Through the practice of the yoga postures and breathing exercises, we are tending the soil, where we will plant. Through this practice, we create a flow of energy that allows us to let go of the past, release the things that no longer serve us, and let go of any toxins, creating more room inside for something new and magical to arise. As we hold the postures, we find the places where our comfort meets discomfort. When that place is discovered, we let go of anything that is not serving us, so we can move deeper into our comfortable edge.
We then find our breath and direct it into the uncomfortable places, creating openness within. As we complete the journey of cleansing, connecting, and preparing, we move into a deeper practice of letting go and discovery. From this process of creating space within and nurturing the soil, we now have the perfect place to plant our seeds. As you plant your seeds, hold your intention deep with your heart and repeat it to yourself with love, belief, and concentration. Begin to imagine that your intention is already manifested. Imagine this intention as part of you. Allow it to speak loudly in the spaces of your mind and heart. As it resonates deep within your soul, see yourself aligned with your intention and aligned with the universe.
This is a BEAUTIFUL brand New Year! It is never too late to start living in gratitude, to accept the unique and divine you, and to live with an open heart, full of love. Give it a try and see how it changes your life.
The holiday season is officially upon us, and that means that many people are scrambling to find the perfect gift.
Yet no matter how shiny, expensive, and large the gift, it won’t be the greatest one you can give. Instead of focusing on material possessions, why not turn your attention inward and think about what you can do for someone instead? Sometimes simply being there and offering your time and love is just the gift a person needs.
It’s about giving people your presence – not presents.
Sharing unconditional love is something that you can practice all year round, too! We all have things going on in our lives, and it can make a world of difference to sit down with a friend or family member and just listen to them. Spend an hour talking over tea or coffee or invite them out for a leisurely walk through the neighborhood. This one-on-one time is sacred; a moment where you two can share and actively listen to each other. It sounds so simple, but you’d be surprised how difficult it can be to fit into our daily lives!
Perhaps that means that we need to slow down and take some time to realize what is truly important.
Fancy technology, huge material displays of affection, and hefty price tags don’t indicate the true feelings we have for others. Giving people our time, our attention, and our generosity and kindness does though!
I know for me that practicing yoga on a regular basis helps to keep me grounded in what’s most meaningful in my life. Moreover, that hour or so I spend on the mat during my hot yoga class enables me to be fully in the present.
The past is behind me and the future is an undetermined moment that I have not yet reached. When I am completely absorbed in the present, I am better able to appreciate my body, and in general, my life. This principle applies to giving someone special your presence!
This holiday season, I am going to concentrate on getting together with my loved ones and being full present in the moment. Be it a family get-together, a chat with a friend, or even a phone call, I will dedicate that time to engaging with them and giving them my whole presence – no distractions.
I might even encourage them to try out some hot yoga with me, which can help establish healthy patterns of mindfulness in the present moment.
I can’t believe that the holidays are rolling around again! This year, I have a lot to be thankful for: relationships, my career, my health… which brings me to the topic of self-care during the holidays.
It is so important that we take care of ourselves, especially during the hustle and bustle of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the New Year. We get so caught up with buying the right presents, preparing the holiday dinners (while trying to avoid the sweets), and running around like mad that we completely neglect our own well-being, and that’s no good!
The truth is, we can’t fully embrace the holiday spirit and the closeness of loved ones if we are sick, crazed, or completed wiped out. That’s why I make it a point to amp up my self-care routine during these busy months. Throughout the year I pay attention to getting good food, managing my stress, and working out regularly.
When the holidays come around, I boost my efforts and make them a top priority! One of the things that helps to keep me grounded is visiting Radiant Hot Yoga a few days a week. This is something I need!
Practicing yoga at least three times a week helps me to sweat the stresses out, keep my body warm and loose, and bring positive energy and balance to my body and mind. Going to Radiant Hot Yoga allows me to leave my worries at the door. Once I step on that mat, I am in my space, and only good vibes are allowed!
Plus, nothing feels better than flowing through the movements in a warm room when the weather outside is getting less predictable and more dreary.
Finally, when I take care of myself, I am better able to extend love and compassion to those I care most about. I know my loved ones can definitely notice when I’m not keeping myself healthy, because I’m not very fun to be around! In fact, a great gift for the holidays that I might be stuffing friends’ stocking with is a gift card for a yoga class!
During the holiday season especially, we want to be with our friends and family, so head over to the yoga studio and get into the flow.
Gratitude is a huge part of my life, and I always say that we’re too blessed to be stressed!
Still, I know that anxiety and stress can happen to anyone, and I’ve had my fair share of it! Once I implemented gratitude and affirmations into my daily routine, it was a complete 180. The little things no longer get to me, and I put my focus instead in things that will lift me up and fulfill my life!
Gratitude also goes hand-in-hand with yoga, a practice that has been around for thousands of years. Yoga incorporates movements, breathing, and mindfulness to help you center your heart and find that elusive mind-body connection. It also helps you to feel thankful for your body and all that it can do! Yoga is a practice for everyone and anyone, and each person goes at their own pace, which makes it so wonderful! When you’re going through the poses and guiding your breathing, you are sending energy to a central point, and it fills you with a sense of compassion, gratitude, and well-being that you just don’t get anywhere else.
Plus, yoga can be incorporated into a healthy active lifestyle to help you build muscle and improve flexibility. I know it’s doing great things for me!
Speaking of being grateful, it’s amazing how many men and women put their lives on the line for us every day. With Veterans Day approaching in the United States, it’s a great time to do something to give back to those who serve the country valiantly.
Operation Gratitude does just that. Through this organization you can donate personal care items, food, letters of appreciation and more to veterans, wounded heroes, and their caregivers. What a great thing to do!
I’m going to flow out of my downward dog and get ready to send some goodies over to Operation Gratitude.
Come join your yoga family for our first Radiant Social Night at Gratitude Cafe Newport Beach Ca. Share some food, laughter and fun. Let’s connect and enjoy a wonderful evening.

At times it can feel as though we’re powerless and striving towards an impossible goal. If you have something that you want to achieve or you want to better yourself, then do it! Nothing is stopping you, only your self-doubt and inhibitions. When I was starting my YouTube channel, I was worried that it would be a total flop. I was definitely stepping out of my comfort zone and I had to learn new skills and grow along the way. That’s what life is all about: growing and having new experiences.
If you feel as though you don’t have any power over your situation in life, then I’m here to tell you that YES you do!We all have our own personal power inside of ourselves. When we wake up in the morning, we can say that we’re going to have a great day because the greatness is already inside of us.
It is when we allow other people’s bad attitudes and the minor inconveniences of life to get us down. I want you to relinquish your personal power and give yourself permission to use it!
It is also important to continually challenge yourself by stepping out of your comfort zone.
Do you think that I automatically knew how to make workout videos and coach people to get healthy? No! I stepped out of the bubble of what I normally feel safe with and I challenged myself to try something different! Even now I am pushing myself to expand my channel, offer new videos and topics, and meet new people through my Team Fearless!
What I want to say is that life is constantly changing and fluid, and we are too! Who wants to stay the same all the time? Our power and beauty comes in being able to change and to try new things. So what are you going to do today to get one step closer to your goals?
Are you going to finally take that class, make that phone call, or go on that trip? Whatever it is, remember that the power to get through it is already inside you, and I’m rooting for you the whole way!
Check out my motivational video on the power of the mind here:
Hot yoga has become a popular yoga practice in recent years, and you may have practiced it a few times yourself! I love hot yoga because it helps me improve my flexibility, become more comfortable with the yoga poses, and release the built-up tension in my muscles from a hard workout. Basically, it’s just what I need after a busy and hectic day!
I choose to go to Radiant Hot Yoga in Newport Beach, California because this yoga studio provides everything that I need: a welcoming atmosphere, an individualized yoga practice, cleanliness, friendliness, and professionalism.
Now until August 1st, Radiant Hot Yoga is offering an Early Bird Special for its teacher training courses!
I know what you’re thinking:
Rebecca, I’m not a yogini or anything like that! I couldn’t possibly teach yoga to other people!”
Well, why not? I was no expert when I started doing hot yoga, but as I continued attending classes and feeling a closer connection to my body, things started to change for the better! Not only did I feel more physically capable of getting through my workouts, but my mental clarity and concentration also improved. While stretching my body I am also stretching my mind, and the ambiance of a hot yoga class is something that you can’t replicate anywhere else.
Another thing that I absolutely love about yoga is that it is an individualized practice. When I step onto my mat, I am practicing only for me. There is no competition and no need to one-up the other person. We are all there to practice together, and yet there is an intense focus on listening to your body and the way it goes through the movements and poses. Just imagine what it would be like to teach your own hot yoga class and encourage others to get in touch with their bodies. So many people rush through life without paying attention to what their body and mind is telling them. If they would just take a step back and breathe deeply, who knows what they could discover?
That’s why I keep coming back to Radiant Hot Yoga in Newport Beach. The instructors are so kind and helpful and they do the best job of walking me through the poses and what each movement is doing for my body. They always encourage me to listen to my body, to get into each pose and breathe through it, and to continue challenging myself physically and mentally. I’m super excited to share one of my wellness secrets with you, and now you can train to be a hot yoga teacher!
From now until August 1, 2016, Radiant Hot Yoga is offering an Early Bird Discount. I know that without the gentle kindness, eye-opening instruction, and invigorating sequences in my hot yoga classes, I would definitely not have the flexibility I have now – both for my body and mind! If you’ve been thinking about becoming a yoga instructor or taking your own practice to the next level, then I encourage you to check this out! What an opportunity!

Many people have thought about doing a cleanse, or maybe they’ve even tried one. In recent years, diet cleanses have been gaining more traction, and with celebrities touting the benefits of cleansing, it can seem like an enticing option. While cleansing may help you lose weight or get your diet back on track, it isn’t something that you should be invested in for the long run.
Did you know that your body detoxifies itself each and every day? It is the body’s job to get rid of toxins in the liver and colon, which it does all on its own. Yet if you’re feeling sluggish, backed up, or you’re having tummy issues, your body might be having trouble detoxifying itself. A cleanse may be able to help.
There are actually many different kinds of cleanses, as well as a variety of ways to approach a cleanse. Some people may prefer a juice cleanse, in which they consume mostly (or only) juices made of fruit and vegetables. This kind of cleanse is good for a couple of days, but it isn’t something that is going to sustain you forever. Other people opt for a water-only cleanse, also known as fasting. While linked to spirituality, fasting is not an ideal cleansing solution, and it actually has no known physiological benefits!
The majority of cleanses involve eating whole, natural foods that are loaded with vitamins and antioxidants. While you might start the first day drinking primarily fruit juices (the sugars in fruit help to flush the body’s system out,) the second day will include more food options. These may include lots of green leafy vegetables, which will energize you. Depending on your body goals, you may choose to refrain from carbs during your cleanse, or you may incorporate fiber and protein-rich carbs like brown rice.
Some things that can help to move things along in your digestive tract could be probiotics, antioxidants, and some light cardio (like walking). This gets things up and running in your body, so you will feel lighter as you empty out your system and detoxify it. Cleanses like these should help you lose a few extra pounds and get your body back in proper working order. Remember, most cleanses are just that: a cleanse, not a diet to follow regularly.
Iprefer to focus on healthy eating year-round to keep my body in tip-top shape. When I concentrate on feeding my body enough good foods from a variety of healthy sources, I feel better, I look better, and I’m able to tackle each day as it comes! If you want to give your body an extra push towards detoxifying, I’d recommend choosing whole, natural foods. Eat a diet rich in produce, lean protein, and healthy fats. Good carbs and fruit can fit into a cleansing diet as well.
You’d be surprised at how well your body will respond to the right nutrition!
I love it when there is a challenge that has already been set up for me and all I have to do is complete it! The next 30 day challenge at Radiant starts on June 1st and from someone who has already done one before I cannot wait to do it again.
They say it takes 21 days to create a habit and when you commit to this challenge you are going to receive so many benefits for your mind, body and soul along with a new formed habit to stay consistent. The challenge at radiant creates a real buzz around the studio that motivates and inspires you to give it your best over the month of June. You get to put your name on the board and give yourself a tick every day you come in! I really love that they do this because you can visually see how well you are doing. The great thing too is that if you miss a day you can double on another day to get 30 sessions in 30 days!
When you make this type of commitment to yourself you are affirming that you are worth the time to get to your mat each day. I know I have days where I feel like I have too much work to do and then find that the reason not to go to class. When my mind is clear and I have been going to practice regularly I am more efficient in the outside work. Make time for you, look after you and you will see a difference in how you are mentally and physically when it comes to your day to day life.
When you are preparing for the 30 day challenge it is key to have the right nutrition throughout. This is to fuel your body to be able to do the physical activity, to repair your muscles from the tension you put them under and also to get the best results. Nutrition takes up 80% of what your body looks like and fitness is the other 20%. You cannot train and get great results when you do not have a balanced diet. I always make sure that I am preparing my body with the best ingredients in order to maximize my performance and get the best results physically More information on nutrition on my website along with customized meal plans.
Due to the amount you sweat during a class your hydration levels will go down over the 30 days which is why you want to up your water intake. Aim to drink 3 – 4 liters of water a day to replenish your body. It is also advised to have electrolytes in your water too that will aid in hydration. For every 2% that your body is under its maximum hydration level your body works at 20% less efficiency. Water is crucial for performance and weight loss. Start to increase your water 4-5 days prior to June 1st to get you body ready!
Rest is actually one of the biggest parts to getting results both mentally and physically. Our bodies have to rest in order to repair and they need to repair in order to grow lean muscle mass and to function at our optimal level. Making sure you get 6-8 hours of sleep each night will maintain your strength over the 30 day challenge. A lack of sleep will effect your ability to perform in class, your form will be compromised which can lead to injury and further fatigue.
So just remember to fuel your body, stay hydrated, get the proper amount of rest and commit to yourself for 30 days. It is not a long time to transform your body, go in with a positive and powerful mindset and enjoy the journey. I am so excited about the challenge and I look forward to meeting everyone else!
Practice yoga for 30 straight days!
Transform your body, Transform your mind.
This challenge encourages you to practice 30 classes in 30 days!
The start of the summer provides a wonderful opportunity for you to get in the best shape of your life and deepen your yoga practice.
Committing to the 30 day challenge will change your life in positive ways.

Spring is a time to ReNEW, Refresh, Rejuvenate! Unlike the east coast or other parts of the world, California sort of always seems like its springtime all year round with the sun shining everyday. Living so close to the beach with nice breezes and cool nights, we almost forget what it’s like everywhere else and how very important this season is.
In Ayurveda, spring is considered to have a heavy, foggy nature that could remind us of the state of our bodies after winter holidays. Luckily, we aren’t on the east coast where the freezing temperatures and snowstorms keep us cooped up indoors. But even though the sun is shining most of the time, we do tend to “hibernate” a bit during December through February as if we are taking a rest from the hectic holiday season.
Well, it’s time to spring into action, shed those winter blues and get in sync with nature! It’s a time of renewal and rededication to one’s self in all ways.
Spiritual de-clutter and de-stress can be as simple as being yourself. Stop listening to other people tell you how to live your life, how to talk or think or even how to dress. Only you know what’s best for you. Trust yourself that you will make the right choices.
When you are trying to be someone you’re not, you become distracted from what is truly important and may miss out on making amazing connections with people and having great experiences that matter.
Regular yoga practice is an excellent way to get rid of the physical and mental junk from our busy and often not-so-healthy day-to-day lives. Creating balance and stamina with Radiant Hot Fusion will sharpen your focus and build strength physically and mentally for a beautiful beginning to the rest of your powerful year.
Prepare your surroundings, your personal space, to give you that sense of something new. That spring is in the air! Put away all those extra “winter” blankets, do a little redecorating by changing up the color of your curtains or throw pillows by using warm reds, oranges and yellows and even blues and lavenders or even white! Nothing says light, airy or open space like crisp, white cotton linens in your bedroom.
Recharge with a simple jaunt outside. Go outdoors, take a walk and appreciate the beauty of the natural world, blooming flowers, and the birds and the bees. Move around, dance to music in your living room, and put a little spring in your step!
Are you new to yoga? Try the Radiant Hot yoga class that is for all levels of students regardless of your flexibility or level of fitness. Or challenge yourself with Radiant Hot Power’s vinyasa flows, long holds, core work and spinal twisting. Get ready to de-stress, detoxify and feel amazing!

Increase your use of healing herbs like turmeric, ginger, triphala and talisadi to ward off springtime colds and help your body detoxify. Drink lots of water with lemons and limes to help cleanse the kidneys and liver.
Plus it’s refreshing! Increasing your circulation with Radiant Yin Yoga will also keep your immune system working optimally and improve your flexibility. This slow-paced style of yoga is perfect for joint rehabilitation.

Nourish your body with foods that will take away that sluggish winter feeling. You want light, hydrating, alkaline-forming foods that are easy to digest. Green smoothies with nutrient rich fruits and vegetables like kale, spinach, red grapes and pomegranate juice. Add in a bit of ginger root and cinnamon to put more spring in your step! Fresh green salads with beets, carrots and radishes are excellent. And beautifully roasted asparagus with a steaming bowl of quinoa topped off with either roasted red or sweet potatoes is just right to satisfy a hungry tummy!
Give yourself the biggest hug! Read a good book or re-read your favorite book! Meditate, go to a museum and appreciate fine art, do an activity that you love or even one that you haven’t done before. Do something that makes you smile!
And of course, heat, movement and lightness are the best ways to rebalance you for spring so get yourself over to Radiant Hot Yoga to increase your strength, stamina, focus and balance, which will leave you feeling strong, composed and stable.
Now take a nice, long deeeeep breath and breathe in the freshness of spring!
Radiant Hot Yoga offers exceptional classes that are designed to heal your mind, body and soul. The teachers are there to help you replenish your body and clear your mind. You can see this with the dedication and passion they put into every class.
Giving your body the benefits of hot yoga is in my mind one of the best gifts you can give yourself. Developing your practice from a 60 minute to an 80 minute class will increase all of those benefits and give you so much more out of your time. Give yourself an additional 20 minutes to make the most out of every day you have on this earth.
Exercising for a longer period of time and moving over the 60-minute mark is going to improve your endurance. If you are used to doing the 60-minute class, the way to improve your endurance is to increase that time period. At Radiant they offer an 80-minute class that will push your body for another 20 minutes, giving you more of the healing benefits as well as improving your endurance. By adding in the session of 80 minutes and getting used to a longer practice you will go into a 60-minute class and feel 100% stronger!
The mental benefits of the longer class outweigh what you can accomplish in just the hour. You escape for longer periods of time which takes you into a deeper meditative state. This is important to do when you want to improve your yoga practice and get connected with yourself on a deeper level. Because you are in the heat for over an hour your metal strength is challenged at a higher level. This is key to advance your yoga practice by doing a longer class as your mind has to remain focused while you are taken into a deeper meditative state.
When you are in the 80-minute class we hold the poses for a longer period of time, what this does is detoxify you on a deeper level. Holding a stretch is one thing but really taking it to your edge is going to give you all of the detoxifying benefits. The extra time in the class allows you to take your time and push your body a little further and really rest what you can do both physically and mentally.
Because we have more time we can get focused on our poses which is going to improves your postures. It is better to take a longer class where you have the time to work on your form. Getting your form and posture correct takes time, when they are done correctly your performance is improved along with the results. No need to rush in the longer class, use those extra minutes and put them into your practice to get the benefits.
Whenever we do something for a longer period of time than what we are used it gives us the opportunity to strengthen our mind and body. Why would you not want to take what you have now and advance to the next level. Everyone has the ability to strengthen themselves and it all starts with trying. You might jump straight into the longer class and be fine or it might take you a while to build up the strength. Either way its key that you start and don’t give up even if you have a tough class. There will be sometimes it’s going to be tougher just because there are many things that can affect our practice and that’s normal, it’s just about picking yourself up and going back into another 80-minute class!
One of the biggest parts of your yoga class is breathing and controlling your breath. The longer class will not only give you more time to practice your breath it will also push your ability. As we exercise and get hot our breath can become choppy and irregular, this is when we need to train our mind to come back to the breath. In the longer class it will be more challenging to keep your breath at a steady pace because you are pushing your body to the next level. This is only going to advance you in your practice and get the full benefits from hot yoga.
Asides all the mental strength that you will get from the longer class you will burn more calories. If you are looking to lose body fat this is going to be perfect for you because you will lose between 700-1100 more calories than the hour class. So for just 20 minutes extra of your day you can get rid of more of the unwanted body fat and be on your way to a faster result ready for summer!
Challenge yourself to try the 80-minute class and make it part of your weekly practice. There are so many more benefits that you get just by adding in 20 minutes! You never know what your body is capable of until you try it and you will probably surprise yourself!
Have you ever set goals before and not achieved them? For 2016 I am going to teach you something new that will help you achieve more than you thought! It is important to set the right intentions for the new year including creating a healthy mind and body. When we are at one with ourselves we can focus on all the other things that come in and out of our life with more ease.
The word goals are thrown around all over the place and they are often seen as just things that are too far down the line. We need a plan of action if we ever want to achieve something. That is why I have decided to use the word objectives! So what are your objectives for 2016?
To help you achieve your objectives we have to look at what needs to be done to getting them. This is where I love this new word, COMMITMENTS! It has totally changed my thinking around and when you change your mindset, you change your life! For this year I have decided to write down what my commitments are. When you commit to something and you keep doing it positive results are inevitable!
Having a healthy body and mind is the foundation to a happy and fulfilling life. It will get you clear on what your intentions are for the future. Radiant Hot Yoga allows you to go deep into your yoga practice which strengthens and challenges you along the process. The studio gives you the environment that you need to grow, let go of things that do not serve you and get your intentions set for the day. Starting your day, ending it, or anything in-between with a practice at Radiant is only going to benefit your wellbeing and focus on a healthy mind and body.
Exercise for one relives stress and anxiety. There are so many benefits to hot yoga that help with your mind and body. Make sure that for 2016 you are committed to going to class and reaping all those benefits 3-5 times a week.
When we achieve our objectives by following our commitments we get what we want and become who we want to be! Take a minute today and write down what you are committed to do and why.
- How many times are you going to work on your practice each week?
- What is the reason you want to commit?
Think about all areas of your world. Your personal life, what your finances look life, social life, how you are spiritually and physically. Share them with friends and family that will hold you accountable for your actions in 2016!
Getting connected to the Radiant Family will help you stay on track. The teachers have a very special presence about them and you want to be part of the community as it will only benefit you in all areas of your life! Set your intention today for a healthy mind and body and make your way to class to start your new year with power and positivity!
There is not one person who has been through the Radiant Teacher Training that has not been enlightened by the experience. This is what makes the teacher training so unique as its more about going deep into your practice and learning about yourself than anything else. What a magical experience to go through where at the end you are filled with love, peace and passion for life.
Yoga is about the practice. The practice and development of the poses and nothing in this form can ever be perfect. I enjoy the peace of attending classes at Radiant because all judgment is left outside and you can be at peace with yourself. There is no competition, you get to focus on being you because that is enough.
The teacher training will allow you to be more confident in who you are, believe in yourself and your own abilities. What a magical journey you can go through in just eight weeks that will encourage you to be the best version of yourself.
Not only will you be able to go deeper into your practice and learn so much more about yoga but you will be on this journey with like minded people. Meeting new friends and sharing the same experience will create an incredible bond that you can see it in all the teachers at Radiant.
When you go through a journey of learning more about yourself you atomically have a connection with the people that you are doing it with. You are on the same page and have an understanding of one another. I very much felt this when I went on the retreat to Mexico with radiant. There was a sense of community right from the beginning that made everyone feel comfortable and at ease in this new environment. We were all on a similar journey of discovery and relaxation which meant there was an underline support system for us all.

Can you believe how quickly the year has gone by? The holiday rolls ‘round, family and friends gather, and the talk at the tables across America are of giving thanks for our year.
Gratitude, if seen as a year-round attitude, can make life simple, easy, playful, and fun for 365 days rather than putting it all into one go-around at the dinner table.
The word grateful is described by Webster’s dictionary as being warmly or deeply appreciative of kindness or benefits received; thankful. What if we put it into our daily practice, like brushing our teeth or getting dressed in the morning?
What if, we took a moment to say thank you for being alive and breathing when we woke up and put our feet on the floor? How would that change your day, your week, your month, your year?! No one is saying you have to jump out of bed with exuberance, although wouldn’t that be lovely, but a simple “thank you” to the creator, the universe for being alive. What a fantastic way to start the day!
When you are grateful for what you have, no matter how small or few they may be, you will begin to see those things instantly increase.
Focusing on and connecting to your breath is a useful way to be present, forgetting about the past and the future and just being in the moment. And it’s a great exercise to incorporate into a gratitude practice. When you are consciously breathing you are activating a part of your brain called the cerebral cortex that is a more evolved part of the brain. While breathing, you are sending impulses throughout the brain that impact your emotions creating a relaxing and balancing effect on the emotions, therefore elevating your consciousness from primitive or instinctual to more evolved or elevated.
Different states of mind can be produced by changing your patterns of breathing. About a month ago, I was on my way to an event and my car was hit from behind. Everyone was fine, and aside from a bit of a fender scratch which I knew could be fixed, I was more concerned with getting back on the road because I was one of the speakers! As the young woman who hit my car exited her vehicle, I could see she was in a panic. She couldn’t catch her words, her breathing was irregular, and I could see she was about to cry. So before we exchanged information, I gently put my hand on her arm and told her it was all going to be ok and to just take a nice, deep breath. Have you ever been really upset and someone who is with you tells you to breath and count to 10? Well, I’m about to get a little technical and tell you how that works and why that little exercise is good for you.
Believe it or not, slowing down your breath really does have an impact on your emotions and changing your mood and state of mind. The cerebral cortex, that evolved part of the brain I was talking about early is activated by slowing down your breath. Then it sends inhibitory impulses to the respiratory center of the brain that overflows into the hypothalamus, the part of the brain responsible for maintaining balance of everything – “status-quo” system wide and is concerned with emotions. This is why slowing down your breathing has a soothing, relaxing effect on your emotional state.
Breathing also helps to increase brain function by opening up capillaries, increasing the flow of oxygen, improving cerebral circulation and forcing the creation of new neural pathways so your brain is activated and awakened!
There are so many benefits to breathing, aside from the obvious, of course. Emotionally and energetically is can still your mind and relieve stress, physically is can eliminate joint pain and help with structural alignment and the postures and attitudes our bodies hold. Explore the many ways that a breathing practice can make a difference in your life and your yoga practice.
You’ve seen it before. A room full of people siting around, legs crossed, chanting Om. You stand there wondering what this funny sound means and if something like this could be for you. Meditation has been practiced for thousands of years and its benefits transcend time. Its purpose is to reconnect you to who you truly are in order to live a happy, joyful, purposeful and fulfilling life.
In essence, to be the best version of you! That funny sound represents silence and enlightenment, and is meant to calm your mind and create a peaceful environment. Most people when they first try meditation, they sit crossed legged, start to fidget, get anxious and so many thoughts run through their head that they tend to think they are not doing it right and then abandon the practice before they even start. Here are a few reasons you might want to give it a go!
Meditation Reduces Stress
You’ve heard this before, but studies have shown that meditation permanently affects people so that they are better able to regulate their emotions. Through meditation, you can learn to choose your reaction to something that makes you angry or upset and learn to just be happy instead! It also improves information processing and decision-making, as well as learning and memory. It increases creativity and can improve your focus and attention, and therefore, your ability to work better under stress.
Meditation Increases Happiness
The practice of meditation increases signaling activity at the brain’s prefrontal cortex, or happiness center. This means that through meditation, you can experience more positive emotions in your life and be happier than you have ever been! It regulates your mood and can decrease feelings of depression, anxiety or loneliness.
Meditation Helps Reduce Illnesses
Meditation helps to bring clarity, balance and a sense of calm to your life, which reduces stress related diseases such as heart disease and stroke. Studies have shown that it also decreases pain and helps to prevent asthma, rheumatoid arthritis and most inflammatory disorders.
Meditation Reduces Signs of Aging
Since meditation teaches us to deal with stress in better ways, it therefore slows the aging process. Stress affects the hormonal levels which then effects the cells, specifically the telomere which effects how our cells age. Meditation is helpful in protecting those cells from deterioration. It may actually help us to live longer! Your cells are healthy, you are happier which only leads to more positive relationships in life which can only lead to you looking more youthful as you grow older! Sounds good to me!
Meditation Is Good Cardio
What?! Meditation is good cardio?! Yes it is! Even though you are sitting still, actually perfectly still, meditation causes the nitric acid levels in your blood to drop, therefore causing blood pressure to drop, just like a good run on the treadmill would do!
You may be familiar with the some of the varied techniques that are categorized by five major types of meditation which are Hindu (Mantra, Yoga, and Transcendental Meditation, practiced 15-20 minutes twice per day in a seated position with eyes closed. For more information go to www.TM.org), Chinese (Taoist and Qigong), Christian (“sitting with God” preceded by contemplative prayer), Guided Meditation (Guided Imagery and Affirmations) and Buddhist (Mindfulness, Loving Kindness and Zen Meditation).
Zen Mediation, Zazen (坐禅) means “seated Zen”, or seated meditation in Japanese. It has its roots in the Chinese Zen Buddhism (Ch’an) tradition, tracing back to Indian monk Bodhidharma (6th century CE). Zen meditation is an open awareness meditation in which you are completely aware of everything inside and outside of you without controlling anything.

Hot yoga is completely different to regular yoga in terms of how essential it is to prepare your body for class. The heat adds a whole new element to the workout and depending on how you prepare it will effective your abilities once inside the hot room.
I love getting my daily fix at Radiant Hot Yoga because it clears my mind and takes me to a place of peace. I believe everyone would benefit from exploring this space at least a few times a week so help them with day to day life.
Radiant Hot Yoga makes it easy for you to switch off and stretches your mind because of the quality of the studio and its teachers. Preparing for a class ahead of time is going to make your experience even more enjoyable!
We sweat excessively during hot yoga so it is essential to make sure you are drinking about a gallon of water for three days prior. Proper hydration will allow you to stretch more deeply and help you to avoid lightheadedness.
If you have not been consciously hydrating for three days prior, you can still attend a hot yoga class. Be mindful not to push yourself too hard. When I’m not fully hydrated, hot yoga its still a great excuse to go to the studio and enjoy the peaceful environment. On these days I am sure to take lots of breaks!
Electrolyte water can help you achieve optimum hydration. Electrolytes aid in delivering the water to the muscles more efficiently, enabling you to continue your workout. Be sure to choose electrolyte options that do not contain added sugar (coconut water or pure aloe leaf puree).
Fueling your body with good nutrition is not only going to make a difference in how you feel in the yoga studio, it has an effect on your day-to-day emotions and physical ability. An hour before practice, have a snack that contains protein, good carbs and fats for slow released energy. After you have finished in the studio, feed your body with foods that repair your muscles so that they can recover and rebuild.
Be sure to prepare your body for hot yoga with enough sleep. Allow your body to heal and detox with slumber. Radiant has classes all throughout the day so you will find one that fits into your schedule. If you are someone who struggles with sleep, try taking an evening class. The class will put your body at ease and help to erase the worries of the day from your mind.
Another preparation tip is to avoid alcohol. Alcohol is a diuretic therefore it dehydrates the body and decreases your strength and overall health.
The instructors at Radiant will help you feel new again. This is one of the reasons I am constantly drawn back into the Radiant studio. The instructors’ common goal is to heal you and remove impurities from your body.
Radiant Hot Yoga offers physically and mentally stimulating practices that bring you back to the basics of self-love, peace and happiness through healing.
