I love hot yoga because it helps me improve my flexibility, become more comfortable with the yoga poses, and release the built-up tension in my muscles from a hard workout. I know what you’re thinking:

Rebecca, I’m not a yogini or anything like that! I couldn’t possibly teach yoga to other people!”

Well, why not? I was no expert when I started doing hot yoga, but as I continued attending classes and feeling a closer connection to my body, things started to change for the better! Not only did I feel more physically capable of getting through my workouts, but my mental clarity and concentration also improved. While stretching my body I am also stretching my mind, and the ambiance of a hot yoga class is something that you can’t replicate anywhere else.

Practice for yourself

Another thing that I absolutely love about yoga is that it is an individualized practice. When I step onto my mat, I am practicing only for me. There is no competition and no need to one-up the other person. We are all there to practice together, and yet there is an intense focus on listening to your body and the way it goes through the movements and poses. Just imagine what it would be like to teach your own hot yoga class and encourage others to get in touch with their bodies. So many people rush through life without paying attention to what their body and mind is telling them. If they would just take a step back and breathe deeply, who knows what they could discover?

The instructors are so kind and helpful and they do the best job of walking me through the poses and what each movement is doing for my body. They always encourage me to listen to my body, to get into each pose and breathe through it, and to continue challenging myself physically and mentally. How Radiant Hot Yoga changed my life... Interview with Sara

What benefits were you hoping to receive from your yoga practice?

I started coming to Radiant during a time in my life when I was experiencing a lot of stress during my last year of graduate school and when I was planning my wedding, and I was hoping to regain mental and physical balance. I started coming to Radiant a few times a week for the “work in” and the work out was a fantastic added benefit!” – Sara

How has yoga and your practice exceeded your expectations?

I can honestly say Radiant Hot Yoga changed my life. I feel like a different person after I leave class, calm, relaxed, happy, and refreshed! I never thought I could gain so many benefits from just an hour long class. The change in my stress level from before to after class is unbelievable…

Radiant Hot Yoga has completely changed my life off the mat as well. I have gained so much awareness and prescience in my daily life, noticing my thoughts so much more and how they affect my well being. Do you notice a change in your physical, mental, emotional and or spiritual body from a regular yoga practice?

The biggest change I’ve noticed since coming to yoga is my mental state. I became so much calmer and less stressed after I became a regular Radiant yogi. My mind stopped racing and I became so much more at peace. I also noticed huge changes in my physical shape – going to Radiant regularly has given me my best body ever!” – Sara

Have you tried other styles of yoga? What makes Radiant Hot Yoga your preferred studio?

I’ve tried many different yoga classes, from Bikram to Vinyasa. Nothing even compares to Radiant in my opinion. One of the best things about Radiant is the amazing, kind, loving staff. I feel at home and with family when I walk into Radiant. They all truly care and make an effort to know their students.

Radiant’s classes are also different in that you feel so comfortable during class, not focused on competing with others in the class and being able to focus on yourself. I can’t imagine going to any other yoga studio!” – Sara

What benefits were you hoping to receive from your yoga practice?

I was looking for a fun way to get a good workout and engage in a healthier lifestyle. I’m the type of person that needs to be held accountable during my workouts so being in a group environment for a designated period of time is crucial to my exercise.” – Adam

How has yoga and your practice exceeded your expectations?

My first goal was to get a good workout as a regular part of my week. But yoga is a lot more than just a workout. It has provided me with consistent time throughout the week where I can unplug and mentally reset.” – Adam

How has yoga benefited you off the mat?

Yoga has helped me relax and to put things into a new perspective in my daily life. It’s a phenomenal workout and “ work in” as Radiant calls it. My days are much more productive and fulfilling after investing time in my physical and mental shape through yoga.” – Adam

Every time I walk out of the yoga studio I feel an overwhelming peace and accomplishment. I’m noticeably in better physical and mental shape which gives me confidence throughout my life. This has become a hobby and workout routine that I always look forward to.” – Adam

I’ve been practicing hot yoga for over 5 years. I’ve tried other types of yoga along the way but they haven’t provided the physical and mental needs that I am looking for. Meet one of Radiant Hot Yoga's inspiring teachers Kelsey Walters

When and why did you begin practicing yoga?

I began my yoga journey at 14 years old in Cabo. We focused on a three part breath for over an hour holding only 5 postures! Shortly after I joined a beginners yoga class at my gym. I grew up wishing I was in a sport, but never participated in one.

The feeling yoga gave me was that euphoric passionate drive and I knew right then this was my “sport”. Yoga opened up my eyes to a whole new world of life. It truly is a part of my soul and I would not be the kind, loving person I am today without my practice, my yoga community, and my teaching.” – Kelsey

How has becoming a teacher changed your life?

Before becoming a teacher I was extremely concerned of what others thought of me. I used to look at the world outside of myself to fill the empty places in my heart, but after becoming a teacher I realized it was up to me to fill those places in my heart. I now can say with confidence that I am fully embracing the woman I am, huge personality and all. I realized how serious I was taking life and now I have chosen to try my best to embrace this life to the fullest.” – Kelsey

When did you know you wanted to be a yoga instructor?

I knew I wanted to become a teacher in 2010, but I was in nursing school and couldn’t take the time out of school to train. Two days after I graduated nursing school I jumped right into Darlene’s yoga Teacher Training.

The reason I wanted to become a teacher is because I tend to reflect on my life a fair amount and found that love is the basis of everything. From the bottom of my heart, my drive is to just make people feel loved, have a better day and walk out of the room feeling like they have a clear vision.” – Kelsey

What did Teacher Training mean to you and what did it do for you?

Teacher training takes you out of your comfort zone. It breaks down walls and barriers within yourself and you have to just persist through the discomfort to get to the other side of it. I am truly so blessed to have been pushed the way I was during training and post training. It was physically and emotionally intense at times.

Once I completed it, it was like HOLY SMOKES! I just did that?! Teacher training shows you that your mind may play tricks and say you can’t do it, but the truth is we are far more powerful than we ever could think. We just have to have faith that we can achieve anything we put our mind to.” – Kelsey

What do you feel is the personality and energy you bring to your classes?

I feel that I bring spirituality, humor, and love to my classes. I want my yogis to feel nothing but love and that there is no judgement in the room. Sometimes the classes can be a challenge and when you find the faith in yourself and tap into that highest form of yourself you can feel pure bliss even in the challenging class.

I also like to laugh, A LOT. So in my classes I want my students to feel connected to everyone in the room and to laugh a little bit.. take the seriousness out of their heads to make room for encouragement.” – Kelsey

What are a few of your favorite things to do outside of yoga?

Some of my favorite things to do outside of yoga is running, weightlifting, getting crafty with jewelry/house decorations and my RN job! I love to cook as well, I am a bit of a foodie :).” – Kelsey
