Schedule Changes, starting 1st October, 2015

Dear Radiant Hot Yoga family,

We wanted to inform you that starting next Thursday, October 1st, 2015 we are changing the following classes:

  • on Mondays the 7:00 pm class will be changed from Radiant Hot to Radiant Hot Power.
  • on Tuesdays the 7:00 pm class will be changed from Radiant Hot Power to Radiant Hot.
  • on Fridays the 5:30 will be changed from Radiant Hot Power to Radiant Hot.

Please, at all times, verify the online schedule for any changes that might occur!

Hot Yoga Prep

Hot yoga is completely different to regular yoga in terms of how essential it is to prepare your body for class. The heat adds a whole new element to the workout and depending on how you prepare it will effective your abilities once inside the hot room.

I love getting my daily fix at Radiant Hot Yoga because it clears my mind and takes me to a place of peace. I believe everyone would benefit from exploring this space at least a few times a week so help them with day to day life.

Radiant Hot Yoga makes it easy for you to switch off and stretches your mind because of the quality of the studio and its teachers. Preparing for a class ahead of time is going to make your experience even more enjoyable!

Hydration

We sweat excessively during hot yoga so it is essential to make sure you are drinking about a gallon of water for three days prior. Proper hydration will allow you to stretch more deeply and help you to avoid lightheadedness.

If you have not been consciously hydrating for three days prior, you can still attend a hot yoga class. Be mindful not to push yourself too hard. When I’m not fully hydrated, hot yoga its still a great excuse to go to the studio and enjoy the peaceful environment. On these days I am sure to take lots of breaks!

Electrolyte water can help you achieve optimum hydration. Electrolytes aid in delivering the water to the muscles more efficiently, enabling you to continue your workout. Be sure to choose electrolyte options that do not contain added sugar (coconut water or pure aloe leaf puree).

Nutrition

Fueling your body with good nutrition is not only going to make a difference in how you feel in the yoga studio, it has an effect on your day-to-day emotions and physical ability. An hour before practice, have a snack that contains protein, good carbs and fats for slow released energy. After you have finished in the studio, feed your body with foods that repair your muscles so that they can recover and rebuild.

Sleep

Be sure to prepare your body for hot yoga with enough sleep. Allow your body to heal and detox with slumber. Radiant has classes all throughout the day so you will find one that fits into your schedule. If you are someone who struggles with sleep, try taking an evening class. The class will put your body at ease and help to erase the worries of the day from your mind.

Avoid Alcohol

Another preparation tip is to avoid alcohol. Alcohol is a diuretic therefore it dehydrates the body and decreases your strength and overall health.

The instructors at Radiant will help you feel new again. This is one of the reasons I am constantly drawn back into the Radiant studio. The instructors’ common goal is to heal you and remove impurities from your body.

How Radiant Hot Yoga changed my life... Interview with Jonathan T.

What benefits were you hoping to receive from your yoga practice?

I was hoping to receive enhanced flexibility and relief from aches and pains, especially in my lower back. An easier time breathing, weight control and an overall feeling of relaxation and a more positive outlook.” – Jonathan

How has yoga and your practice exceeded your expectations?

It has exceeded my expectations in every way. My lower back feels amazing. My posture has noticeably improved, I breathe easier on a day to day basis and I find that my focus and mental clarity is much sharper as well.  I look forward to my yoga practice and the time I spend in the hot room, it is often the most impactful time of my day.” – Jonathan

How has yoga benefitted you off the mat?

I have found that it helps me to be more patient, and understanding with others. More conscious of my own body and it’s needs. I have also found that my diet has improved and my sleeping patterns as well.

I initially sought out Yoga to aid in my recovery from my Jiu Jitsu training which often leaves me sore and with strained muscles and joints. It has absolutely helped me to recover faster and be more flexible and adaptable in my Jiu Jitsu training.” – Jonathan

Do you notice a change in your physical, mental, emotional and or spiritual body from a regular yoga practice?

Yes I have noticed a positive change on all of these areas from my Yoga practice. More than I anticipated.” – Jonathan

Have you tried other styles of yoga? What makes Radiant Hot Yoga your preferred place of practice?

Radiant Hot Yoga was truly my first hot yoga practice. I was traveling for work and I tried taking a Bikram class in New York. It was not enjoyable in any way. The style was very ridged and the teacher was unwelcoming to new students. It was as far removed from the inviting and fun experience at Radiant Hot Yoga that I had become accustomed to.

I went the one time and never went back. I plan on attending Radiant Hot Yoga for the foreseeable future and I feel blessed to have yoga become part of my day to day life.

What benefits were you hoping to receive from your yoga practice?

I’ve been consistently practicing yoga since 2007. But during most of 2013 and 2014 the challenges and distractions of my life kept me off the mat.

Yoga is one of the special places I meet God, so I knew that after I moved from the East Coast to SoCal I needed to reconnect and recommit to it.” – Sanyika

How has yoga and your practice exceeded your expectations?

I love Jesus and Yoga (in that order) so when I began to refocus on my mind, body and soul connection post-divorce and after the complete shake up of life as I knew it; the only thing I could offer was a fragile heart and lots of fragmented pieces.

Daily I came to the mat and prayed, allowed the postures to represent a moving meditation and let go of what I thought would be for what actually was. I yielded, I accepted, I cried, I surrendered. From a place of weakness I found strength, courage, restoration and resolve.” – Sanyika

How has yoga benefitted you off the mat?

Most people think that I am a pretty “happy” person off the mat; sure I am happy when I get a great parking space, my hair looks cute with minimal effort, or I don’t need to wear Spanks to get into my jeans; but all those things are circumstantial. Because I connect deeply with God on the mat, yoga allows me to offer a more accurate perspective of what is perceived as “happiness,” which is that I strive to CHOOSE JOY no matter the circumstances.

Do you notice a change in your physical, mental, emotional and or spiritual body from a regular yoga practice?

My skin is glowing because I constantly sweat out toxins, my abs are tight (thanks Adham!), and my mind is clear and focused.

At 42 years old I am the most fit and functional that I’ve ever been and it just keeps getting better.” – Sanyika

Have you tried other styles of yoga? What makes Radiant Hot Yoga your preferred place of practice?

From October 2014 to now I have practiced at RHY a whopping 270 times, it wasn’t intentional at all, I just found myself on the mat at 2 or 3 times a day sometimes. Hot yoga makes me HAPPY. The Hotter the better, thanks Ericka for keeping your classes toasty, juicy, sauna like hot!

I love that at RHY mastery of a specific set of postures is the focus. When I first began the sequence, I thought I’d get board with it, but now I understand that every time I come to the mat my practice is different and there is a deeper level or enhanced variation that I can learn in the very pose that I’ve done hundreds of times. That’s exciting and challenging!

And on the rare occasions when I practice other forms of yoga or poses, I find it’s super easy to assume the postures with ease and little effort; not because I’m familiar with them, but because I have a level of mastery with the basics.

Plus, the instructors are ALL top-notch, the energy is amazing, and at Radiant Hot Yoga I have found genuine community in so so so many beautiful forms. There’s nothing NOT to love here, it gels and fits with my soul like a snug yummy sweaty pair of Lulu’s!” – Sanyika
